Independent Project:

Protection of Marble from Acid Rain

Hi! I am a junior in the Art and Archaeology department and am interested in art conservation. This fall I will be studying the possibility of developing a coating to protect marble from acid-damage using ion-doped oxalate crystals. I will be working to make a coating that matches the lattice spacing of calcium carbonate in marble. I look forward to escaping the museum and getting into the lab this semester!

I’ll be working together with Dr Rosa Espinosa and grad student Tim Wangler.
